At the place of present day’s St. Katherine’s Church and the Franciscan monastery once stood a chapel dedicated to St. Katherine and a poorhouse for the needy parishioners. The new church was built in 1657 and the Franciscan monastery was founded next to it. The life of Franciscans left an indelible trace in his-tory and life of Krapina. besides their spiritual work they ran a pharmacy and cared for the ill. The monastery is home to a rare collection of sacral art while its library, founded in 1650, boasts with some very exceptional titles.
